Coveris Pirtó switches to 100% renewable energy

For the last 35 years the Pirtó site has remained an active player on the European flexible packaging market for food and industrial goods, with 2,500 tons of film produced annually.

Since the beginning of 2022, the Hungarian plant has been using 100% energy from renewable resources, including biomass and solar energy. The company said the decision to switch to sustainable production was not an easy step but a necessary action on the path to a sustainable future.

“Switching to green energy leads to decreased CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. As a result of this sustainability action the emissions are reduced by approximately 700,000 kg CO2, which allowed Coveris Pirtó to eliminate our Scope 2 emissions to zero”, said Gabriella Papp, managing director of Coveris Pirtó.

“As more and more of our clients have strict sustainability goals in place, this step supports their CO2 footprint reduction. As a leading manufacturer of flexible packaging, we believe that we can inspire other companies and clients to take steps towards a more sustainable future.”
