Sheng Kee Of California Recalls Certain Mooncake Gift Boxes

Sheng Kee of California, Inc. is recalling varieties of traditional Mooncake Gift Boxes for customers citing possible presence of undeclared egg, a known allergan, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said.

The recall involves Small 12 - 3 Flavor Assorted Mooncake Gift Box as well as 4 Flavor Assorted Mooncake Gift Box; Small 12 - 6 Flavor Assorted Mooncake Tin Gift Box; Small 12 - Tea Flavor Assorted Mooncake Gift Box; Small 6 - 3 Flavor Assorted Mooncake Gift Box; and Small 9 - 3 Flavor Assorted Mooncake Gift Box. All these products have expire date of 10/29/23.

Further, Assorted Large 4 Mooncake Gift Box, Large 4 - Date Mooncake Gift Box, Large 4 - Lotus Pine Nut Mooncake Gift Box, and Large 4 - Red Bean Mooncake Gift Box are also included in the recall. These products' expiry is on 10/7/23.

The products come in Glossy Paper Gift Boxes in Various Colors.

Sheng Kee distributed the recalled Mooncakes nationwide in retail stores and through mail orders.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the egg-containing products were distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of egg. As per investigation, the issue was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company's production and packaging processes.

People who have allergies to egg may get serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. However, no illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the recalled products.

Consumers with egg allergies who have purchased the affected Mooncake Gift Boxes are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

In recent recalls citing undeclared egg, Unilever United States Inc., affiliated to consumer goods major Unilever, in early August called back select Knorr Sopa Soup Mix products.

California-based Day-Lee Foods Inc. recently recalled about 10,511 pounds of frozen ready-to-eat or RTE chicken potsticker products due to undeclared allergens of milk and eggs.
